How to Prepare for Your Botox and Filler Treatment

Getting ready for your Botox and filler treatment can ensure you achieve the best possible results while minimizing any potential side effects. Here are some essential steps to help you prepare:

1. Avoid Certain Medications and Supplements

In the week leading up to your appointment, avoid taking blood-thinning medications such as aspirin, ibuprofen, and certain supplements like fish oil, vitamin E, and ginkgo biloba. These can increase the risk of bruising and bleeding at the injection site. If you are on a medically indicated blood thinner stay on it, but consult with your provider ahead of time or day of the procedure. Always consult with your provider before stopping any prescribed medications.

2. Refrain from Alcohol

Alcohol can also thin your blood, so it's best to avoid drinking it for at least 24 hours before your treatment. This will help reduce the likelihood of bruising and swelling.

3. Plan for Aftercare

Consider your post-treatment schedule. While Botox and fillers typically require minimal downtime, you might experience some redness, swelling, or bruising. Avoid scheduling important events or vigorous activities for at least 24-48 hours after your treatment.

4. Prepare Your Skin

On the day of your appointment, arrive with a clean face, free of makeup and skincare products. This helps ensure a sterile environment for the injections and reduces the risk of infection.

5. Discuss Your Expectations

Clearly communicate your aesthetic goals and expectations with your practitioner. Understanding what to expect can help you feel more confident and comfortable during the procedure.

6. Follow Pre-Treatment InstructionsIf you have previously suffered from facial cold sores, there is a risk that the needle punctures could contribute to another eruption of cold sores. Please start your anti-viral medication 3 days prior to your injection and let your nurse practitioner know if you are prone.

7.  Do not use Botox if you are pregnant, are allergic to any ingredients, or suffer from neurological disorders.

By taking these steps to prepare for your Botox and filler treatment, you can help ensure a smooth and successful experience. Remember, your practitioner's expertise and your preparation work hand-in-hand to achieve the desired results.
