Preparing Your Skin for a Chemical Peel


Before undergoing a facial peel, it's often recommended to "prep" your skin. In fact, we strongly advise against receiving a deeper skin peel without this step. Providers often recommend applying Tretinoin or Hydroquinone prior to a peel for optimal results. These topical creams not only enhance the effect of the peel but also reduce the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. You can continue using Hydroquinone up until the peel and afterwards, but you must stop Tretinoin 7-10 days before your chemical peel. This is because Tretinoin can increase the depth of dermal penetration of peeling products, which can lead to complications.
